Recently I've been having some hair issues. I cut my hair almost 3 months ago because I felt my hair was thinner than it has ever been. Don't get me wrong, I've never had really thick hair, it has always been fine but I've always had a lot of it and now I just don't know. I was looking at some old pictures last week and I regret not listening to my mom when she told me not to perm my hair but at 13 everyone had a relaxer and the natural movement didn't exist. There were no blogs, videos and forums encouraging you and showing how to style natural hair so I decided to follow the masses.
Since my cut, my hair has been much fuller and looks very healthy but I'm still not totally satisfied so instead of really going crazy and just shaving my head, I've decided to stop perming my hair... or at least try. Before everyone gets all riled up, let me explain. I won't be perming but that doesn't mean I'm joining the naturalist movement bashing all women who choose to relax, texturize, weave, etc either. You probably won't see me rocking a TWA (teeny weeny afro) and don't expect me to do a BC (natural term meaning big chop: cutting all the perm out of your hair) anytime soon but I will be growing my hair out and letting it do what it's meant to do. I'm not on a "journey" of self discovery or self love, I just want my hair to be at its maximum potential.
I've embarked on growing out my hair before (out of absolute necessity). My freshman year of college I allowed this bit___, I mean chick to perm my hair and she convinced me to color and perm on the same day. BIG MISTAKE! I had major breakage and had to cut my hair and stop perming. I rocked braids and twists for almost 2 years but got frustrated with styling so I returned to the creamy crack. My hair was healthy again at that point anyway.
Who knows if I'll change my mind in the near future and if I do thats ok but I'm really going to try and hopefully with help from internet sources and encouragement from friends, I'll stick it out.

Nicki I went thru serious breakage 2 years ago, I mean hair falling out when I got it rolla set. MY hair was damaged badly not even braids could salvage it. So you know me i googled and read up on everything thing about hair. I used Apoghee 2 step treatment and my hair stop breaking Instantly. The 2 step is a Extreme protein treatment and should only be used on severe breakage. Every other week i used the mild treatment called the Apoghee 2 minute treatment. I use this one everytime i get my hair permed and every week i get my hair wash and set (depending on how i feel) Girl this product worked miracles for me. My hair grew back long, fuller and healthy! You can get the product at Sally's. If you want more information on hair care for African American women join Hairlista.ning.com. I found this site very helpful. Sorry for the long post.
