Our First Valentine's Day

To be quite honest, every weekend I spend in DC is like Valentine's Day. We eat out quite regularly and Nelson tries to plan something special or unique when I'm in town; so he tried something different this time... he cooked for me!

He came home with pink roses and headed straight to the kitchen to get started. He didn't even change out of his work clothes which was pretty sexy but shhhh don't tell him I said that!

The table was lovely and I must admit, the food was really really good. I have to get him to cook more often.
Even though the conversation over dinner was great I couldn't help but be distracted by the little blue box in the middle of the table.

The sweetest message ever!

Loving my new necklace, thanks babe!

Don't worry, I got him something too...lol. I bought him the HTC Evo Android phone which he got a few days early ;)

I must say, Valentine's Day 2011 was a definite success!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!

Last week my friend Alinka asked me to be a guest blogger on her site Linka Living for Love Note Thursdays so I decided to share with my readers on V-day what I said about the guy in my life...

Because he’s so reasonable, it keeps me rational
Because he’s so intelligent, it keeps me thinking
Because he’s so sweet, it keeps me smiling
Because he’s so honest, it makes me trust
Because he’s so comical, it keeps me laughing
Because he’s so loving, it makes my heart swell
Because he expresses his thoughts and feelings, it makes me one day hope for more
It’s because of these things that this guy has my heart ღ

I'm excited about celebrating our first Valentine's Day together. I can't wait to see what he has planned. How do you plan to spend your day?

Happy Valentine's Day

I’m a hopeless romantic, a sucka for love and although I’ve never had a real special Valentine’s Day, it’s still one of my favorite holidays. I’ve been reading on guys facebook status’ about Valentine’s Day being a ploy to make men broke and questioning why the day even needs to exist …yada yada yada… well let me break it down for you because it’s real simple.

Let’s face it, everyday life is stressful. We are tired, have bills to pay, classes to attend, houses to clean, children to care for and jobs we hate. There is no way you can show your significant other how much you love them the way they deserve it each and every day. Valentine’s Day gives you the opportunity to display, voice, and express your love, devotion, and appreciation for them. It reminds us all how special it can be to share your time, space, energy and most importantly your heart with someone else.

So don’t take your sweetheart for granted. Give them the attention they crave, need and are worthy of even if it means DVR’ing the All- Star game and watching it later on tonight. Hey, you can stay up late, Monday is a holiday ;)

PS- Don’t forget to say I love you to your friends and family, the ones that continue to love and accept you even when you’re at your worst.

PPS- For all of you that are heartbroken, crushing, or loving from afar, even if the feelings aren’t mutual, be thankful that you’re able to cultivate and grow such love in your heart because that in itself is a gift and a beautiful thing.

My Pre- Valentine's Day

Yesterday morning I was exhausted! I mean I was so tired that I couldn't even go to church. My plans included sleep, sleep, more sleep, and then watching the 3 point and dunk contest. I was content with my game plan for the evening until I got that bbm from Naomi, "What are your plans for the evening?". Ahhhh shoot I thought to myself. That means she wants to do something. I quickly hopped off the bed and looked in the mirror. My hair looked a hot mess and my eyebrows weren't done because of my work schedule this week so of course that would be my excuse but my red skin friend wasn't having it. She told me her brows weren't done either and to get my hair done ASAP because we were going to Sugarcane no ifs, ands or buts about it.

So after spending 4 hours (yes 4 hours) in the hair salon I got dressed and made my way to Brooklyn for date night with my girls and I'm so glad I did. Nothing feels better than sharing real love amongst girlfriends (well somethings do but the good feeling doesn't last as long.....lol). They take away the lonely feelings, make you laugh, keep you from going crazy, and most importantly allow you to be who you really are.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal, a few drinks (just one for me, I'm dieting...lol), took a few trips down memory lane, good conversation and many laughs. I wouldn't have wanted to spend my Pre- Valentine's Day with anyone one else. Like Busta Rhymes said, I love my ladies yup yup, I love my chicks.

NuNu vs Cupid

Yo, me and Cupid got beef! What’s up with him and his aim? Why don’t the guys I like (well the one guy I like) like me back? Why does he keep pointing that dumb arrow at these conceited, immature, cheating, boring, unattractive, no ambition having men. Let’s not forget the ones from my past that can’t get over me (can’t really blame them though....hehehe) or better yet the ones I liked at one time but the feelings weren’t mutual then but now they see what they’re missing (not gonna happen bud *thinking* did I just say bud??).

Cupid is just a mischievous, winged child who doesn’t know better so I’m going to forgive him this time but he has till next Valentine’s Day to get his act together ;)

It's the little BIG things...

So Valentine's Day is 4 days away and while the women of the world are gearing up to receive their 12 long steam red roses, diamond earrings, dinner at 5 star restaurants, etc... It makes me think of the smaller gestures that put a big smile on my face. I call them the little BIG things. Like...
  • Holding my hand when you're driving (even if it's stick shift)
  • Calling and letting me know a song on the radio made you think of me ( and I don't mean Petey Pablo's Freek-a-Leek)
  • Texting me in the middle of the night when you wake up and can't go back to sleep because I'm on your mind (just make sure I don't work in the morning)
  • Telling me I'm the prettiest with sweat pants, hair tied, chilling with no make up on (yes I quoted a Drake lyric)

Ok, ok I can't let the men of the world know how easy it is to make me smile and cause my heart to flutter. Some things they need to discover on their own...

What are your little BIG things??

Definition of L-O-V-E

In honor of Valentine's Day all my posts this week will be about... you guessed it:
THE L WORD

The best definition that I've come across by far is from one of my favorite authors Eric Jerome Dickey:

Love is a mental illness, an obsessive- compulsive disorder romanticized

Have you ever been crazy in luv?
